You may not be able to trade with your buddy in Pokémon Sword for a few reasons. Additionally, if you or your buddy have not progressed far enough in the game to unlock the ability to trade, you will not be able to initiate a trade. Finally, if there are any issues with your internet connection or with the Nintendo Switch Online service, it may prevent you from trading with your buddy. **
